First broadcast in Japan in 1973, Casshern is an anime series created by Tatsunoko Production. The main character, Tetsuya Azuma turns himself into a cyborg to fight against robots that have taken over the world. This graphic is based on character design sketches by Ippei Kuri, one of the founders of Tatsunoko Production.

MEET THE PRODUCTION COMPANY

Tatsunoko Production

Tatsunoko Production is generally recognized as one of the most important animation production companies in Japan. Established in 1962 by two brothers, Kenji Yoshida and Toyoharu Yoshida (aka Ippei Kuri), many of their works were inspired by American superhero comic books given to the brothers by American soldiers after the war. Their notable works include Mach Go Go Go (aka Speed Racer), Gatchaman (aka Battle of the Planets) and Tekkaman. Toyoharu also served as a guest professor at the Kyoto University of Arts and Crafts.
