Hutch the Honey Bee is an adventure anime series produced by Tatsunoko Production. Premiered in 1970, it is about a young bee named Hutch, the son of a Queen bee. He is separated from his mother when his native beehive is destroyed and sets out on an adventure in search of his mother. Despite the sad undertone for a family anime, it was very popular and ran for 91 episodes.

Tatsunoko Production

Tatsunoko Production is generally recognized as one of the most important animation production companies in Japan. Established in 1962 by two brothers, Kenji Yoshida and Toyoharu Yoshida (aka Ippei Kuri), many of their works were inspired by American superhero comic books given to the brothers by American soldiers after the war. Their notable works include Mach Go Go Go (aka Speed Racer), Gatchaman (aka Battle of the Planets) and Tekkaman. Toyoharu also served as a guest professor at the Kyoto University of Arts and Crafts.
